Position description
Rhodium Group is looking for an entrepreneurial and talented Associate Director to join our world-class team of economists, policy analysts, researchers, and data engineers. As an Associate Director with Rhodium Group’s China Practice you will have a leadership role supporting research and analysis for decision-makers in both public and private sectors. You will work on many of the most pressing issues in foreign affairs and international economics, including China’s macroeconomic outlook, trade spillovers and the implications of tariffs, industrial policy, and subsidies in China and other economies, and supply chain vulnerabilities.  As a manager, you will help support research staff in their professional development, oversee the design and implementation of high-impact research projects, and engage with media, academia, and policymakers on a regular basis.

Position responsibilities
  • Carry out sophisticated, integrated qualitative and quantitative analysis of developments relevant to team focus areas, including China’s economic system and its global implications. Prepare short and long-form research papers, briefing materials, and other deliverables. Work in ad hoc teams and independently.
  • Understand, manage, and coordinate complex research projects; ensure timely execution and quality control for research products and deliverables; coordinate mid- and junior-level research staff activities.
  • Mentor junior staff; support managers with team building and staff retention; make recommendations for developing a sustainable talent pipeline.
  • Work within the team, across teams, and with external experts to manage project execution.
  • Manage client relationships and participate in client engagements including presentations and other representational activities.
  • Contribute to business development objectives, including identifying potential targets, conducting outreach, and developing proposals. 
  • Contribute to research agenda development and external engagement, to include engaging with the community of China experts and thought leadership.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in economics, political science, public policy, data science, computer science, or equivalent work experience in a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in a related field and advanced and demonstrated knowledge of China’s domestic economy and its global impact, with a particular focus on fundamentals of the economic system, the structural reform trajectory, trade policies and practices, and industrial policy.
  • Proven track record in taking ownership and leading a portfolio of complex projects in a fast-paced business environment.
  • Experience in mentoring and managing research analysts.
Location and travel requirements
  • The preferred location for this role is Washington, DC
  • Occasional domestic and international travel (<15%)

Rhodium Group compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our range may also be determined by factors including, but not limited to, your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as geographic location, performance, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, internal equity, alignment with market data, and business or organizational needs. Typically, an Associate Director joins at an annualized salary of $138,650. You will also have an additional year-end bonus based on a combination of company and individual performance.
